The Community has allocated in 2019 more than 15 million for the improvement and modernization of irrigation infrastructures in the Region (02/01/2020)

The actions in the community of irrigators of the Transfer Tajo-Segura de Librilla, already hired for more than 8 million, will begin in the second half of January

The Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment allocated a total of 15.3 million euros to the improvement and modernization of irrigation infrastructure in 2019, of which 10.2 million were for direct investments and 5.1 for grants and subsidies.

These works are financed by 63 percent by the European Union, through the Feader funds.

Among the direct investments are the works for the modernization of the community of irrigators of Pliego, for an amount of 800,000 euros, already concluded, within the framework of the Rural Development Program of the Region of Murcia (PDR 2014-2020);

and the contracting of modernization works in the irrigation community of the Tajo-Segura de Librilla Transfer, sector 3, with a budget of 8.2 million euros, which will begin in the second half of this month of January.

The General Directorate of Water has also processed direct investments for the redevelopment of irrigation communities through the use of reclaimed water from treatment plants, corresponding to the projects presented by the irrigation communities Campo Alto de Lorca, Hoya del Mollidar-El Portichuelo de Yecla and the Future of Abanilla.

The budget of the selected investments amounts to 1.2 million euros.

The works will begin in early 2020.

The Ministry has processed grants amounting to 2 million euros for the improvement and modernization of irrigation infrastructures in irrigation communities, corresponding in the 2016 call for an aid of almost 200,000 euros for the Community of Irrigators Eye of Caravaca Archivel de la Cruz, and 1.8 million for the Irrigation Community Transfer Tajo-Segura de Librilla, Sector 2. The call for aid for 2019 is endowed with 1.6 million euros and is currently in the process of processing applications.

The Ministry has also published the regulatory bases for aid for the construction of water storage rafts in irrigation communities in the Region, charged to own funds, whose call is pending approval.

Finally, the Ministry allocated 1.5 million euros to improve energy efficiency and renewable energy generation in irrigation communities, within the framework of the PDR, whose call will be published in January.
